The Calm Before the Storm
by Danielle L. Jensen
More sex than plot, but that's what I'd expect from a novella.
From her first conversation about babies with Nana, I thought we were going to find out that Serin had sterilized the sisters, so it was interesting where that went. The sponge thing was weird though.
I LOVED the shark stuff though. First, the explanation for what actually happened at the end of book 2, then her devestation over it, and then another chance to prove herself that actually went in kind of a magical/mythical direction. I kind of hated the traitor shark test thing when I read it in book 2, but this novella really turned me around.
Not entirely sure what the point of this novella was though. To show Ahnna leaving? To show another time Lara tried to earn her place? To show that Aren was truly willing to leave Ithicana? I'm not sure any of that was worth these 125+ pages.
I guess we'll see in the next book if anything here mattered.
