This is the first book I’ve read in a while that made me YELL about what was happening. I couldn’t put it down and I had such strong reactions. A retelling of King Arthur doesn’t really cut it when describing this book because it’s so much more. The way that Tracy Deonn wove in slavery, racism, acceptance, the weight of grief and the discovery of your own heritage was so masterfully done. The world building is so strong and so layered, Arthurian legend built upon the south’s grim history with added twists and secrets. There’s also so much diversity in this cast of characters and it all feels organic and they have great chemistry. I strongly felt for our main character Bree, and the romance in this one is MESSY and I LOVE IT. 10/10 stars, all the stars for this one, I can’t wait for a sequel.
