I dunno what it is--maybe the fact that the chapters are sooo short, or if it's just repetitive smut, first 1 then another, then another getting off in a row, or maybe it's the tense, first person present--but this reads a bit like a ... sexy IKEA manual?
It was a bit too "put that here, touch her there." Insert tab A into slot B, ooh ahh wow.
I like the characters. All of them. But the dudes are written by a woman. It's so painfully obvious. They're TOO genial, too perfect. Too in touch with their feelings and emotions. Too in touch with HER wants and desires. And too okay with sharing her and pleasing her at the same time.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I know that's the whole point. But even when I'm reading RH erotica, I want a LITTLE bit of realism, I guess?
Even if most of the characters have your typical tragic backstory, I didn't really feel connected to them. I didn't feel like they were truly connected, emotionally, to one another. I felt like, as a reader, I was kept at a distance.
Which is WILD, considering how many dicks there are waving around in this book.
The short chapters definitely don't help. It feels episodic. And SO damned fast. There's no time to marinate in any of the emotional stuff. It's just wham, Wham, WHAM, new chapter, new chapter, new chapter. New topic, new scene, new POV.
Felt like I was running a marathon. All head spinning and heavy breathing, and not in the good way.
