I was hoping this book would have stuck closer to the academia of magic. The idea of a bunch of young people getting access to all of human knowledge, magical and otherwise, is a really fun idea. Instead the magic is always used to complicate the dynamics between the cast of characters. Their relationships are the focus of the story, but only a few of them end up changing over the course of the book. Many have juicy secrets, but when they are revealed, there seems to be really no consequences. Although the book starts off quick, it seems to get bogged down and the author ends up adding a rogue element to tie everything together. It’s a shame that the story wasn’t able to live up to its premise’s potential.
