No one warned me about this book. I went into it completely blind. All I knew was that it set in Alaska, and the dad was a Vietnam War vet.
TW: Domestic Violence, Physical and Emotional Abuse!!
I would not really classify this book as a historical fiction, but more so a character driven story that focuses on survival.
Kristin Hannah does it again! Hannah has a way of making you care about the characters. This book will make you feel a rollercoaster of emotions. I felt anger, fear, sadness, grief, love, and hope. I was feeling conflicted with Urnt and Cora's character. You can somehow understand the pain they are going through, but still feel the frustration of neither of them seeking help.
This is the only book that has made me cry. The ending is so gut-wrenching, I don't think I'll ever recover.
