The Farthest Shore by Ursula K. Le Guin
5.0

It's really, really good. The whole trilogy has been amazing and this is just as good as the others (even though I personally liked The Tombs of Atuan the most). It's no wonder most XX and XXI century fantasy (and other) writers cite her as a massive influence - the world building, philosophy and the immensely in depth characters are all masterful.

This time, the focus was on mortality, morality and duty. With a gentle touch and layered storytelling, these concepts are explored and explained. True artistry.

"Do you see, Arren, how an act is not, as young men think, like a rock that one picks up and throws, and it hits or misses, and that's the end of it. When that rock is lifted the Earth is lighter, the hand that bears it heavier. When it is thrown the circuits of the stars respond, and where it strikes or falls the universe is changed."
