I'm unsure if the whininess of the audiobook narrator made this book worse or if it's just the book. The characters seem to be very young and every choice they make reek of "my brain isn't fully developed and everything that happens is THE WORST".

Ava and Kaye suffer from the "unable to talk about our feelings" trope of romance novels with an extra layer of "we were best friends and talked about everything" which felt really lackluster to me. Then Tristan felt like he was supposed to be the "safe" choice for Kaye without ever really being a choice.

I think there were just too many tropes and cliches packed into one book for my taste.
