I love Robin McKinley. I love her strong female characters and her fantasy worlds and her darn good storytelling. Pegasus is no exception. The Princess Sylvi is bound to the pegasus Ebon, following the tradition set forth in an eight hundred year old treaty between the two kingdoms. Unlike all the other bound pairs, Sylvi and Ebon can actually speak to each, which causes tension with the court magicians who act as interpreters between the races. But the more Sylvi learns about the pegasi, the more she begins to wonder if those magicians aren't hurting more than they're helping.
