This was such a good book. I loved the aesthetic of it: dark, mysterious, slow release of information, lyrical writing style, great pacing. It's really everything that I like in a book.
I love trying to guess where the plot is going and taking in the little clues that are given for that and I think Chokshi does it so well. That being said, I did guess the big twist about 20-30 percent into the book, but the writing was done so well that if I wasn't also an author and avid reader, I probably wouldn't have guessed it. The foreshadowing was so small but every one that I noticed only increased my positivity and I loved that.
The characters were so fascinating as well. I wouldn't say they were lovable because at times I really didn't like most of them, but that's what made them so intriguing. Indigo was so manipulative and abusive and vindictive but I could understand her allure and why Azure wanted to be around her because she did seem to really care about Azure most of the time. Just like any abusive relationship. I also think it's funny that the bridegroom was never given a name which just points even more to the fact that this story is really about the two girls even though he gets a pov.
And also,
because I knew that Azure had assumed Indigo's identity, i saw some of the manipulation tactics that she employed with her husband which made me not like her character as much as well. But I could also understand her motivations. She didn't want him to find out that she had killed her best friend and assumed her identity. Even if it was an accident, she was still worried about how he would react to it and she didn't want to give us the life and freedom she had gained.

In all it's really such a good book and kept me hooked throughout the whole thing.
