The Push by Ashley Audrain

SOMEBODY CALL A PRIEST!

This might be the best book that I will ever read this month. HAHAHA. Holy shit. I didn't expect that I would love it this much. Actual rating is 4 stars, then I bumped it up to 4.5 stars when I found out that this was the author's debut novel! I created a whole list of my anticipated releases this year after looking at the short synopsis on articles. Somehow, this book found its way on my list and......... I'm so glad that it did. This is just the book that I needed.
This is a story of the making and breaking of a family. Ever since Blythe's daughter, Violet, was born she had been struggling to connect with her. The thoughts that her daughter might be a devil spawn does not help either.
I couldn't stop reading this! I am so happy that there are a lot of people who love this book just as I have. This is one of those rare cases wherein I agree with popular opinion. I haven't looked at the synopsis of this before I started it and it truly made a change. If I had read the synopsis before diving in I think I would be spoiled and not feel all the things that I was meant to feel.
This was very gripping, complex, and terrifying at all points. There were times that I just curse out loud because of how fucked up everything that has happened to Blythe. I feel so sorry for the woman, I truly do. She doesn't deserve all of these.
This is scarier than Stephen King's Pet Semetary. If it's not, come fight me.
Is this a perfect book? Nope. There were times that I got bored, especially in the last third of the book. The action was dying down a little. The ending was predictable.
But is it everything that I need?

This is how debut novels should be down. Hands down. Will definitely keep an eye on Ashley Audrain's next works.

"I’ve come here to give this to you.
This is my side of the story."
