Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls, Volume 1: 100 Tales of Extraordinary Women
by Francesca Cavallo, Elena Favilli, Rebel Girls
The idea is great, the realisation is a bit hit and miss. My six year old daughter took some getting used to the format, but then enjoyed the profiles as bedtime reading. Some of the profiles required filling, especially the ones that avoided talking about the fate of some of the murdered activists. Overall, there were inspiring stories about women who changed society for the better by fighting disease, racism, or sexism, for example. But there were also often simply lame American Dream stories. A proper rebel girl knows that our background defines much of what we become. True heroines are the ones who change society to make it more equal, gold medals and Nobel Prizes or not.
