Widow's Point
by Richard Chizmar
Written in the ‘found footage’ style made popular by The Blair Witch Project, this is truly one of the creepiest books that I have ever read. Thomas Livingston, a well known author and ghost hunter has been allowed to spend the weeekend locked inside the infamous Widow’s Point Lighthouse, site of multiple murders and disappearances.
“I only want to find the truth” Livingston says. But will the truth set him free, or trap him forever?
I loved the found footage style that Richard and Billy Chizmar used throughout the book. It created a very fast paced read, due to the limited amount of back story, as well as it only being a monologue of the protagonists experiences. But it also built tension in the reader as we got multiple brief glimpse into the horror that Mr. Livingston was facing inside the lighthouse.
Also, the book is illustrated though out by Glenn Chadbourne and the illustrations provide an additional level of dread as they provide the visual to go along with the narrative pictures being created by the Chizmars, via Mr. Livingston.
A well conceived and executed novella, this is a book that fans of horror books and movies would enjoy.
