The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue
by V.E. Schwab
I was looking forwards to this and it did NOT let me down. Actually quite confined in scope given the immensity of time, Addie LaRue spans art, love, and immortality with a deft grace and a warm sense of humor. The present and past are both vividly and kindly imagined (I can not vouch for the accuracy of any of these settings and would love for someone who can take it from that angle to do so) with such lovely settings that every date feels infused with energy. As do all of Addie's adventures across time. The core conceit absolutely carries this book, and even though Henry squaring with a sexy version of the devil is going to leave so so so many people rooting for the villain. Well... it's not the worst love triangle. There's also a lot of complex issues of consent given Addie's particular position which are really fun to talk out with friends, and the story has a lot of moral questions baked into its premise. So it gives you a lot to chew on, and a lot to have fun with. Overall just a good, solid YA read with great prose.
