The Road by Cormac McCarthy
2.5
I simply couldn't comprehend the premise because I cannot understand why anyone would want to survive against all odds in a dark desolate world where the ocean is grey with ash and the majority of survivors are brutal cannibal rapists. This made the entire book fall completely flat which says more about me I suppose. The main theme wasn't lost on me actually I know it's about how tenderness and hope exist even in the darkest parts of the world which I'm sure resonates with a lot of people but not me because I... much like the man's wife would rather take a bullet to my head. The setting reminded me of I who have never known men though.
Objectively though it's quite well written and the exchanges between father and son touched my noncomprehending heart as well.
