My Favourite Quotes About Asexuality
'Because there was always after. There was always more. People didn't just kiss and continue on with their lives. They undid buttons and touched mouths to hot skin and lost themselves within each other.'
'He didn't know if he was gay enough when there was only one boy he wanted.'
'"I think," Andrew whispered, "it sucks to be ace."
"I think, " Lana said, "the world sucks for making you feel that way."
What I Liked
1) The main element of this book that gave this a higher rating is the discussions of asexuality. Andrew's confusion and overthinking about his feelings were so relatable and I think this could make a lot of asexual teens feel seen.
2) Lana is amazing. She tried to get Andrew to feel more comfortable being part of the queer community and I think she truly cared for him more than anyone else (looking at you Thomas).
What I Hated
1) Thomas. The book starts with Thomas and Andrew fighting and you can tell we are meant to care about them and want them to be friends again. However, there were barely any scenes where we actually saw their friendship apart from the overly dramatic 'I want to crawl inside him' esque statements. I needed to see more actions not just words. I think their relationship needed to be more fleshed out for me to care. Especially after Thomas insinuates that Andrew is just scared and not asexual (although he does later apologise but I didn't think that was well done either) I was just rooting for Andrew to be alone and be besties with Lana.
2) I love weird horror. I wanted this book to do more. We did have a few scenes that were truly gross but I just wanted more of the horror scenes. I did like the ending though when the horror truly ramped up but I wish we would have got more of that in the beginning because I found this book really hard to get into.
