This One Summer by Mariko Tamaki

I was really hoping to get swept up in this. The art is incredible, but the story just isn't there. There's no plot and, honestly, there's not even much character. There are primarily two events that are going on in this story that the protagonist is kind of distantly aware of. Neither of those pieces really hit their stride until 200 or so pages in. And I found that the dialogue that was used was not as essential as it should be, considering this is a graphic novel and it's just pictures + words. I'm sad about it :/
