Obsidian
by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Rating: 3.5*
Since I read The 5th Wave I’ve been wanting to read more books about aliens and because this series was having a lot of hype I decided to give it a chance. I am very surprised by how much I enjoyed this book and even though I only give him 3.5 stars the story was very funny and engaging and it was one of those light reads that just feels good to be reading despite not being very spectacular like GoT (just for you to know what I mean).
The first thing that came to my mind during the reading was that this book reminded me a lot of Twilight. Instead of vampires we have aliens, the main characters, Katy and Daemon, are not so annoying and I really like the relation between them and the story itself is not so irritating and melodramatic and depressive like Twiligh despite the base scenario being exactly the same.
Katy and Dameon have a love/hate relationship and every time they’re together they are always “discussing” and I found that hilarious. Daemon is super sarcastic (and it kind of reminded me of Jace and Will) and temperamental but that didn’t bother me at all; Katy, besides having a book blog which I think it’s awesome, is very sassy and funny and I really liked her. The other characters were ok and I liked all of them.
The only down side of this book for me was the lack of action. This book has only two or three parts with something more exciting that made my heart beat a little faster and at some points of the book I got a little bored. To me the best thing about Obsidian is Jennifer’s writing style. The writing is really good and it makes the reader keep reading nonstop and always wanting to know what’s going to happen next.
In conclusion I really enjoyed this book and I’m definitely going to continue with the series!
