More Happy Than Not
by Adam Silvera
LGBT History Month (6/12): This book had so many gut-wrenching moments, it was a roller coaster of a read. The story is so simple, yet explores so many themes. The twist, no twists, blew my mind. It almost had a rowling-esque way of revealing them, made no less appropriate by Silvera's cute little way of making all of his characters, now that I've read all of his books, huge harry potter fans. It reminds me of when I met him here in orlando, and he was a keynote speaker, talking about his life in new york and how harry potter shaped his life and childhood. More Happy Than Not explores themes of suicide, homophobic parents, accepting parents, nonchalant siblings, secret loves and overcoming regrets; representation of gay and bisexual boys of colour.
