Wink Poppy Midnight
by April Genevieve Tucholke
4/5 Stars
Every story needs a hero.
Every story needs a villain.
Every story needs a secret.
My mind is still reeling after having just finished this novel. April Genevieve Tucholke has an intriguing writing style that pulls readers in the moment they open the book. Told in multiple POVs, this is the story of Wink, Poppy, and Midnight-three high schoolers and the summer before senior year.
Each character was unique. Wink is the daughter of a Psychic-she has a very fluid look at the world. She believes in fairy tales, and that the world works like a book. Midnight is the kind-hearted boy that is dealing with his mother leaving. Poppy is the bully that just wants the boy she loves to notice her.
With the changing perspectives, readers get three sides to a summer story. Though this is a coming of age story, it plays out more like a fantasy and psychological thriller. You know a secret is coming, but you aren't sure what the secret is. Heartbreak, death, tales, and more ensue.
Definitely a thought-provoking and heart-stopping novel.
