The Devil and the Dark Water by Stuart Turton
4.0

Right, so I really liked the whole mysterious leper cursing a 17th century ship idea but I don't think this meets the standard of his previous book. I loved the character development, although there were lots of them to keep track on, the beautiful description and twist at the end- I did not see that coming.. But for me the middle was quite stodgy, and the book could've easily been shortened to increase the action and grip on the reader. Then again parts of this book really were enjoyable and I liked how they explored the role and feelings of women at the time. Also though the ending was quite abrupt and slightly unsatisfying, I felt the general mystery was cleverly thought out, and very unrealistic but that is kinda the point. Overall it was quite enjoyable but I think Evelyn hardcastle was more gripping and intriguing than his second novel.
