Discovering what events occurred in Dagr’s life that eventually led to him being Merek is rather sad. This very much seemed like a villains’ origin story. You learn and understand that he started out normal for his timeline, and then from horrors beyond his control he changed. Yet even when going insane he is still trying his hardest to do something good. This short story definitely gives you a range of emotions. It’ll be interesting to see how Merek develops and devolves in the future.
