TLDR: Beautiful romance that also dives into exploring the ace spectrum, comphet, and the pros and cons of finding community in online spaces. Also, a scavenger hunt to find your first kiss.

Such a lovely read. This book follows Angela, an asexual lesbian library assistant, who finds herself going viral after posting a video about having never been kissed. Inspired by the asexual community she starts to build online she decides to organize a scavenger hunt…where the winner gets to be Angela’s first kiss. Things get complicated when the cute bartender she’s been pining after for years jumps in to help yer organize the scavenger hunt…

The plot of this was so unique! It was so fun watching Angela plan out this scavenger hunt, build community in online spaces, and get to experience all the firsts when it comes to love and relationships. It was super cute. It also incorporates the importance of art in queer spaces and queer artists. I loved seeing all of this come together to form a coherent storyline with a lovely romance and safe exploration.

What I loved about this book was how far it dives into exploring identity and about finding community. For queer people it is so important to find your people and your chosen family to have people who support and understand what you are going through.

As a lesbian, that also identifies on the ace spectrum, I saw myself in Angela as she fumbles her way through delving deeper into where she falls on that spectrum and the diversity within that label. It had ME questioning things almost as much as she was. It was written so well that I felt like I was being guided through Angela’s emotions and feeling the shifts she was experiencing while exploring this side of her. It was beautiful to see how much of a difference having that safe person, and supportive community, can help keep you grounded in yourself while you figure out who you want to be.

AHHHHH not to mention how this was the perfect example of what comphet can look like. I had a lot of similar experiences that Angela did while I was deep in comphet myself.
