Stepsister
by Jennifer Donnelly
This book is breathtaking.
It is brave and courageous and full of heart. Full of the heartrending truth of what it can mean to be a girl and a woman. To be told not to be yourself, and to believe it and give them the knife, let them shape you.
This book contained pure honesty and lots of helpful messages to people who have grown up this way to help them find the missing pieces of their own hearts.
And it was also a delightfully twisted fairy tale. The fantasy elements were wondrous and fantastical and whimsical and so vivid you could see everything in your mind’s eye as it was written.
I haven’t read a book that made me this obsessed in a long while. It was wondrous to be so enchanted.
There was emotion and intrigue and hope and fear and bravery. And above all, heart.
“There is a magic in this sad, hard world. A magic stronger than fate. Stronger than chance…It is the magic of a human heart.”
