A turn of the century boy's adventure story with a philosophical point of view. Our main character's mistreatment at the hands of the physically and mentally dominating sea captain fuels his transformation from foppish city dweller to heroic adventurer. As a foppish city-dweller myself, it was interesting reading about masculinity, the natural world and man's place in it, Darwinism, and so on from London's point of view. The end devolves into slapstick wish-fulfillment at times, but I recommend this book to anyone, honestly.
