The Golden Yarn by Cornelia Funke
3.0
3.5 stars.
I love these stories, and I love this world, but this one was a bit tough for me. Throughout the book it seemed like there were very high stakes, which always makes for a good story, but the plot unfolded at such a leisurely pace that it undermined that for me. It ended up being a bit of a slow read, and not in the best way.
I also have a bit of a hard time with the writing style in general. I've noticed that with all the books, but particularly with this one. There's a lot of repetitive emphasis on internal thoughts of the characters, which becomes tiresome, and the action is sort of glossed over.
Despite those pitfalls, I still feel very invested in the characters and in the world. While this isn't a book I could see myself picking up again, I am definitely looking forward to the next one!
