Weird alien sex. Universal apocalypse as a result of a physics experiment gone wrong. Humans have transcended the need for corporeal existence. Overall, I enjoyed it - fairly high on the sci-fi hardness scale but still firmly speculative. This moved a bit slowly for my tastes but the last third picks up the pace pretty well.
