A Court Bright and Broken by Amy Patrick
4.5
fairytale retelling with a little enemies to lovers… yes please!
Thank you to The Nerd Fam and Amy Patrick for the opportunity to ready this early.
I went into this without remembering the blurb because I signed up for it a while before I received the epub copy. But I am happy I did, because I was pleasantly surprised at the small nuggets that made sense once I realized it was a retelling. If you like fairytale retellings because the author takes it in a whole new direction while keeping some of the iconic bits, you should read this!
A Court Bright and Broken gives us Cinderella vibes but amped.
You get the prince, Stellon. He's fae and the heir apparent. But he has some secrets of his own. His father is cruel and heartless, especially when it comes to the humans and Stellon has never concerned himself with them either. Until her...
You get the poor girl, Raewyn. She's human and takes care of her family the best she can. But, she falls into a situation where decisions have to be made and she is determined to get her family back on their feet. She ends up in the sights of the fae prince, although she doesn't know who he is right away.
You get a royal ball, because it's time for the fae princes to take wives. Stellon crosses paths with Raewyn again and things start to get interesting.
You even get the fairy god mother... kind of lol
There's world building, a magic system that is pretty cool, true love and secrets... so many secrets. There's tension, fun and flirty banter between the MCs and chemistry! And it's not forced, it's more forbidden and they can't contain themselves.
Some tropes include:
Enemies to Lovers
Forced Proximity
Hidden Identity
Forbidden Love
It's told in dual POV
This is a 4.5 star for me (rounded up for posting). I loved it but there was just a little bit missing in the description of the fae world.... just a little. But I also know that this is just book one in the series so I am looking forward to more of the magic system and fae interactions in the next book.
