Roslyn “Rosie” Blackthorne, a vampire-human hybrid, fakes her death and escapes to Aurora Springs, Alaska—a town that hates vampires. With help from Asher, human hacker extraordinaire, she creates a new identity and lands a job at a bar owned by wolf shifter twins, flirty Remi and grumpy-but-kind Ben. To stay hidden, she also strikes a risky deal with a demon, Pan. Adding to the tension is Gavin, the dangerous vampire husband she left behind.
Rosie’s mix of sweetness and snark makes her easy to root for, but the story mostly focuses on setting up the backstory rather than diving deep into the plot. Since this is part of the Mate Games series, there are ties to earlier books (War’s stories) that I missed by reading out of order, which caused some confusion. Still, I enjoyed the setup and can’t wait to see what’s next for Rosie and her men.
