Astonish Me
by Maggie Shipstead
This is a lovely novel, and held my attention well. The beginning didn't grab me, but I felt myself getting pulled in fairly soon. I have a soft spot for books about dancers, somehow, and that probably helped. I liked the switches back and forth in time (though sometimes wasn't totally sure of the timeline of events - was this before or after that other thing?). Most of the adults (Joan and Arslan, specifically) are kind of ciphers, so it's hard to know what's going on with them. The end was a bit too pat, perhaps, the way some of the ends were tied off.
