Hooked On You by Kate Meader

We have finally made it to Violet's story. It has been clear in the previous books in the Chicago Rebels series that, although is is the outsider of the Chase clan, she is the true heart that keeps everyone together. If I compare the Chase woman to the Wizard of Oz, Harper is the Scarecrow, Isobel is the lion and Violet is Tinman. And Bren St. James is Oz...the one who lost his way but found his purpose in the end.

I don't want to go into too much commentary because I have given a lot of feedback on the previous reviews from the series. I will only say that Violet has always been my favorite from early on. She came into a group of people who she was linked to but did not know. She was truly forced into a situation where she felt she had no stake. A family that she didn't know, owning a team in a sport she wasn't interested in, and with no real guidance or roadmap on what to do. However, just through a shiny new pair of eyes, a big smile, and an open heart, she made friends within the team, bonded with her sisters, tried new experiences, and fell in love with an entire family that needed a void to be filled.

Bren didn't seem to have an easy childhood, only spending parts of the year with each parent but he was able to enjoy his time with each family, in each country, and find a hobby that he was passionate about. Bren may think that he was lucky to go into the pro's so young but that took real work and dedication on his behalf. unfortunately, it came very fast for someone who was missing things in his childhood and he got swept away in the glitz and glamour. He married too young and became a father soon, and eventually, fame and failure caught up to him with his demons. Bren is incredibly strong to have been able to pull himself out of that hole, repair himself for his children and brothers, and still have the respect of everyone. Bren may have fallen on his journey, but he got himself up, brushed off the dirt, and continued to work harder for a better life. He deserves to have a love like the one that Violet can offer him.

I wish we would have seen more of Violet's backstory with her mother and aunt's growing up, how Clifford Chase's influence or lack of presence molded her into the person that she is as an adult and get more of a glimpse into the future that she wants to have with Bren.
