First of all, no I do not know why I waited so long to start this series. Maybe because I knew it would become my entire personality once I did? Anywho…
I started the series with The Assassin’s Blade, which I know is hotly contested. I decided to read it first because I’m not huge on flashbacks, and I knew that later in the series, I wouldn’t love the idea of “backtracking” for Celaena’s backstory, and it would make me antsy to just move forward in the main plot. I heard reading it later in the series would give a higher emotional impact, but baby, I’m already there. I cried ugly tears at the end of this, even with it being first.
Currently dying to keep reading the series so I’ll keep the review short. Love SJM’s writing, loved the shorter, digestible novella style of this book, and loved the emotional impact it had on me! Such a great start to the series.
