Frankenstein: The 1818 Text, by Mary W. Shelley

Satan had his companions, fellow-devils, to admire and encourage him; but I am solitary and detested.

Like most folks, I was somewhat familiar with the basis of Mary W. Shelley's 'Frankenstein.' I'd seen Hollywood adaptations, cartoon portrayals, etc., and growing up I figured I could probably forgive myself for never reading the original source. Well, it turns out I can't, in fact, forgive my past self for thinking something like that, haha.

Mary Shelley's prose is beautifully written, especially for someone so young at the time. I really like the way she described the various environs, especially Switzerland, which sent shivers up my spine. The dialogue between the characters was also to my liking. It may seem a bit strange to some, how fondly some characters speak to and care for each other, but I thought it was very sweet. It made those heated encounters between V. Frankenstein and
the creature
all the more impactful imo.
