The Beautiful by Renée Ahdieh

Ok, first of all, I have no idea how I ended up listening to this. I had some credits in my account, I was looking for an easy read, I was in the mood for something vampire-y, voilá. It's not my usual thing and I have zero experience in the genre, so I won't judge if it was good or bad based on the story / characters.

I wouldn't have minded finishing it, as it was kind of what I had in mind when I first got it (about 13-14 hours of easy audio to accompany my work), but what made me stop was Bastien's chapters. The narrator's voice for him ended up being this insanely annoying Alan Rickman imitation that your friendly neighbourhood's snob stoner does at 3 in the morning when he's the last one left at the party and is trying to prove he could totally get a classy chick if he wanted. It just immediately turned fake, outrageously slow, and I guess it was going for seductive?? IT WASN;T. Which makes zero sense to me, because the narrator was amazing during the rest of the book, so I guess she was following some unfortunate guidelines? I'm unsure. The point is, I could sort of handle it when Bastien was speaking, but his entire chapters became unbearable really quickly. And I don't have the patience to suffer through my easy read.
