I really appreciate The Charioteer as a modern queer novel. Written in 1953, Renault depicted a budding romance, intertwined with a 'one who got away' romance that - although slightly on the dramatic side - is believable.
Unfortunately, it wasn't a book that enticed me enough to read it in a timely fashion; even book club couldn't motivate me enough.
