Somatic Descent: How to Unlock the Deepest Wisdom of the Body by Reginald Ray
3.0
This book was a bit challenging to read. The information in it was good but as a practical instruction on Somatic Descent or somatic meditation there was a lot lacking.
The book begins with a discussion of the Soma and the wisdom of the Soma. The author's intention is for the reader to be able to gain greater insight through tapping into the wisdom of the Soma. He then describes the Somatic Descent process going through it in phases and steps. This is where it got a little difficult.
There are accompanying audio files that guide through the process and I think that's part of the problem with this book. The book does not stand on its own and really only serves to expand upon the audio files. Also clouding the waters, the author breaks down the process into a series of phases but later in the book breaks each phase into steps and refers to the steps rather than the phase. For me, it caused some disconnect between the audio files and earlier material in the book and the author's observations of the process.
Overall, I think this book is a good introduction but it left me wanting more.
