Upon rereading you start to realize just how different the first book is to the end of the series. I had forgotten so many of the details of what happens during the first book, but it was fun to revisit. In general, I think my feelings in terms of rating have not changed and I do not think it is the strongest in the series by far. Struggled to keep my attention at some points, and it took me ages to finish, but it was nice to pick up on some of the easter eggs and nuances about what’s to come that I didn’t at first recognize when I read it originally. Still, impressive when you consider the fact that SJM was 16 when she started writing the books.
