The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune

A good story that felt like the author was deliberately lowering the stakes throughout. Felt almost in YA in that regard. The children’s characters were lovely and the book did make me feel something, but I was ultimately left wanting for what could have been a more exciting book with very few changes otherwise.

For example, why make Arthur a Phoenix if he wasn’t to die and be reborn? Why also make a whole fuss out of Arthur “using” extremely upper management when there was no deception involved? It just felt like the situation could have been made more tense which would have led to a more satisfying ending.
