Well-written story, good descriptions, and interesting ideas. The execution of the story fell flat, however. Having read the Parable series too, I think there is too much concern with the inner experience of her (frankly wooden and boring, albeit intelligent and pragmatic) protagonists. I expected much more exploration of the dynamics between species, more engaging descriptions of the alien society, and certainly a much more philosophical, big-picture view given the extraordinary plot. It did not feel very imaginative to me, honestly.
