The Cat Who Could Read Backwards
by Lilian Jackson Braun
This first entry in the Cat Who series is Braun at her best--funny and sharp. The early, scrappier incarnation of her protagonist, Qwilleran, and his feline friend, Koko, have a humble quality that gives the novel energy. Read Backwards is not only an entertaining murder mystery but also an interesting slice of mid 60s art culture. Highly recommended.
