The fantasy world building is poor and none of the characters are developed enough to seem real. Characters make choices that seem overly contrived and don't make sense with what little we know about them, seemingly with the sole purpose of advancing the plot.
The romance takes a while to show up, and there's absolutely no romantic tension outside of description of how hot and powerful the faeries are. The plot does pick up by the end, which helped me suspend disbelief enough for the latter half of the book to be an entertaining read.
