Secret Santa by Jezabel Nightingale
4.0
Secret Santa has some heavy plot themes and triggers that should be taken into consideration before reading this. All that said, I think this added to the book and took it from only a fluffy light read as you would expect for the Christmas season, to a book with serious content and past for both main characters.
Jaime is the billionaire owner of online media outlet TOD and what he appears at a surface level is nothing to what lies beneath. He has a strained relationship with his Father, and to some degree, his Mother, but there is a very good, and tragic reason for this. He maybe a grump about Christmas but the way he genuinely cares for his employees is second to none, and what we would all want.
Carolyn (Caz) is the sports reporter for the TOD, and has grown up in a conservative household, more so, following the tragic death her Mother in her teens. She effectively lives in the shadow of her older brother's AFL career, and is often only spoken to or referred to as the "baby sister" of him. Her experience in relationships is very limited, due to misogynistic ideology of her Father. She may be the sports reporter but her ability is not limited to this, and she is well respected by her colleagues.
They both are attracted to each other, neither having the courage to do anything about their feelings, even believing that it would not be reciprocated. With the help of the workplace "Secret Santa" it pushes both of our Christmas "Grumps" that they could be the Christmas miracle they both have waited for. There is some ghosts of Christmas past that come laden with big lumps of coal and this is where their strengths will be needed to navigate the darkness. There are a few truly beautiful spicy moments throughout, and with that comes part of the healing that both of them need.
