The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy by Rachel Joyce

3.0

This book is a great accompaniment to The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry. In fact, I'd go as far as to say I preferred it to Harold Fry. I was a bit sceptical about whether I'd enjoy it, as I'm rather fussy about my romance novels and I hate it when they're too overly sentimental but I found the romance in this tastefully done.

In some ways I was glad she didn't end up with Harold. To me, the important part of the novel was Queenie's story and her finding peace within herself. I enjoyed the refreshing view of hospices and the amazing characters in there. Flinty was definitely my favourite, her courage to embrace herself and all her joyful quirkiness. I found it a touching and emotionally intelligent book and I would definitely recommend it.
