THAT CLIFFHANGER!!!
This was reeeeally good. And different. What I loved the most, and what I think sets this apart from other romantasy books, is the relationship between Arken and Kieran. The choice to become friends, and watching their relationship evolve into something really quite special, and then some, was a fabulous change in pace for me - and as a friends to lovers stan - I thoroughly enjoyed it. The will they won’t they push and pull was everything, whilst understanding both their reasons for wanting to remain platonic.
I really enjoyed the underlying plot - prophecies, secrets and elemental magic all set in a school, loved it.
I do wish we had got more from the world building, especially in terms of the academic setting. I would have also loved more history woven through the story, however, I am expecting book 2 to give me all of these, and I adore how the next one has been set up!
Cannot wait to see what Harper Hawthorne does with it! Highly recommend this one if you’re looking for something that’s a bit different from everything else.
