The Cloisters
by Katy Hays
I liked the vibes of the book. The setting was a great start; a semi-unknown museum set in a vine-filled garden with beautiful architecture? The perfect setting for a dark academia novel. I particularly enjoyed the part where there was a storm at Rachel’s lake-side house. The addition of the tarot aspect was also very intriguing. I have never been into tarot, but I have always been interested to know it. The story felt a little lacking, but overall it was okay. The characters were really, I think, where my issue with this book lies.
I did not like Leo, who was obviously trying to be this cool love interest who can serenade into your heart. It felt corny, I think. I also felt like the Ann didn’t have much depth — I am not sure why, but she felt like just a blank slate. The book was easy to read, though, and the chapters were well sized.
