 this is so wholesome!!!!

picked it up for f/f fake dating, one of my favourite tropes and soon hani & ishu grew on me! reading stories about brown girls brings me so much joy. i enjoyed seeing them fall for each other as well as unintentionally bring out the best in one another. i really liked the depth of the story regarding unhealthy friendships, biphobia and racism that are woven subtly in the surroundings. it also explores the desi family dynamics of expectations from children as well as learning to accept them for who they are. the bengali and muslim culture is so authentic and lovely, hani and ishu stay true to their cultures in the best way!

that said, i wish hani's friends had gotten a different outcome instead of letting them walk away after being biphobic, manipulative and awful friends in general. but that's my only complaint with the novel! if you're looking for a feel good, comforting contemporary i cannot recommend hani and ishu's guide to fake dating enough!
