Faking Under the Mistletoe by Ashley Shepherd

5.0

I LOVED this book. Admittedly I have really enjoyed Shepherd's writing from the fanfic days, and this book had all the heart and humor her writing has always had, but with the added bonus of new characters. I read this in a day (stayed up into the early morning to finish, so technically two days) because the flow was really good and I was having such a fun time reading about Olivia and Asher.

One thing Shepherd has always excelled at was characterization and this was no exception. The characters felt realistic and genuine. The interactions and relationships felt organic, often made me laugh, and nothing felt forced. While I would would NEVER do some of the things Olivia had planned for her workplace holiday festivities (I would rather sit naked on a hot grill than allow my coworkers to see me sloppy drunk), I loved seeing where the plot took these characters. I also appreciated the queer family representation.

It passed my escape test. I was enjoying myself too much to think about the construction other than highlighting particular witty lines. Several parts left me actually smiling down at my kindle.
