Shadow Reaper
by Christine Feehan
I knew Ricco's book was going to be special. When we met him in book 1, I figured his would be the last in the series, since he seemed to be the most tortured. I was really happy to be wrong!
What with the whole Shibari thing, I knew this book was going to be high on the steam scale. I was proven right, too. Ricco used the art to drive away the demons from some things he'd done as a teen in order to try and protect a family. Ricco was intense, gentle, and someone I really liked. As for Mariko, the heroine, she had a huge journey throughout this book. She'd been beaten and told she was worthless all of her life, but that didn't stop her from becoming a great shadow rider. She was intelligent, deadly, and do everything within her power to protect those she loved, which was what led her to come from Japan to Chicago to kill Ricco by becoming his rope model.
the plot revolved around Ricco and Mariko's romance, as well as them trying to find Mariko's kidnapped brother. According to the note she received, she had three weeks to kill Ricco, or else Ryuu would be killed. I was nervous when I saw why Mariko was sent there. I'm not into deception and that type of thing lasting the whole book. Fortunately, it didn't, and Ricco and Mariko grew to love one another. Ricco learned to accept his past, and Mariko grew more confident.
This was a gripping installment in the series. It was steamy, really emotional due to the characters' pasts, and there was a lot of action. Some parts did drag for me, but even so, I always wanted to know what happened next. Safe to say, I'm hooked!
