The Mother of Black Hollywood: A Memoir by Jenifer Lewis
5.0
This is the best biography I've ever read.
Jenifer Lewis' personality shines throughout the pages. You learn so much about her life and career and it's sprinkled with just the right amount of info about the people she worked with and those she befriended. It's also lovely how some of the story arcs are reflective of the time in the world at large (e.g., the start of the HIV/AIDS epidemic and the Rodney King riots). Simultaneously as she takes us through her career, she intertwines it with her mental health journey and how it has affected her personal life and career.
Just an amazing read.
