The Inspector General by Nikolai Gogol

4.0

Gogol was supreme at satire, but often straight (or even tragic) comedy was missing. I can only think of [b:Marriage|13080385|Marriage|Nikolai Gogol|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1321710741s/13080385.jpg|6130426] that also fits the bill. It's a good introduction into Gogol, the Czarist way of bureaucracy and blessedly short because the farce of it all would get annoying at a longer length.
