This book was definitely something I didn’t expect. As someone who loved Dorian Gray (not to say they’re similar, but to say that Dorian Gray also dealt with themes of a ‘soul losing its path’, so to say), I perhaps thought this book would echo that storyline.
Demian is something else completely. I’ll admit that I read it after being recommended it connecting to BTS’ Wings storyline. I understand the link between this book and that musical era for that group much better, and can have a deeper appreciation for the lyricism + symbolism in the main music video.
However, I don’t think I would’ve read this book had I not been urged to; it’s not necessarily up my alley in interests- it’s very much reflective, and as a college aged individual who also experienced that push and questioning in religion, I found myself almost ‘distracted’ with my own reflections.
Still a good read, my personal tastes aside! Felt both fast and slow, depending on where I was in the novel.
